RED DELICIOUS

Originating in Iowa in the 1880s, the Red Delicious was at first described as “a round, blushed fruit of surpassing sweetness.”

It was the result of a contest to replace the Ben Davis apple and at one time represented over three-quarters of the crop in Washington. Today it still remains the largest apple crop in the state largely because of it’s early harvestability, crispness and sweet flavor.
